Hello!
I’m Crystal, a freelance editor with over nine years of experience in content editing, copyediting, and proofreading.
My portfolio spans fiction, nonfiction, and STEM curriculum, with a specialization in Kidlit, Middle Grade, and YA fiction. In addition to my freelance work, I spent over five years as a Book Production Editor for a traditional academic publisher. In that role, I have experience with typesetting books, supporting authors during the production process, reviewing and editing proofs, and collaborating with departments, copyeditors, proofreaders, and printers to ensure that each manuscript is ready for publication. While I handled a wide range of subjects as production editor, I have a particular interest in working on history and true crime titles.
My approach is also informed by a decade-long background in education. Having worked as a preschool teacher and a special education paraprofessional, I have a unique understanding of how children and young adults engage with language and storytelling. I’m also an advocate for promoting cultural diversity, neurodiversity, and visibility for disability in books.
When I’m not at my desk, I enjoy reading cozy mysteries, writing middle-grade short stories, watching hockey, and living life with my husband and our pup, Ada Love (named after Ada Lovelace).
